Andrij Kotowych

Picture
Positive, good sense of humour, dedicated, knowledgeable, hard working, encouraging...these are just some of the words that describe Andrij, aka 'the Drij'.  Andrij is a Level 1 certified trainer in CrossFit and is looking to expand his CrossFit certifications so he can continue to give more back to the CrossFit community.  Going into his third year doing CrossFit, Drij knows it never gets dull and that's just one of the many things he likes about CrossFIt. Growing up, Andrij took part in various sports. FACT!  Drij is also a Lululemon Ambassador for the Sherway Gardens location.  FACT!

Angie Gauthier

Picture
Angie is a CrossFit Level 1 Certified coach.  She is a professional firefighter and is a certified Emergency Medical Responder.  Whether its adventure racing or playing hockey, Angie is a passionate and experienced competitor but it’s the sound of 3-2-1 Go! at the beginning of a workout that flips a switch in her that brings out the true competitor and athlete.  There is no stopping Angie.  She recently placed first in the 2011 Overdose Challenge held at CrossFit Element and as a member of the CrossFit Select team, finished 3rd with an on the podium finish at the 2011 Reebok/CrossFit Canada East Regional competition.  She has also competed in Firefighter Combat Challenges.  Angie is the type of coach/trainer that will push you to succeed and will be as excited as you are when you get your first pull-up or when you PR on a deadlift.  If you ask Angie why she loves coaching, she will say, that she wants to make a difference in your life and help you achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Chris Baillie

Picture
Chris is a CrossFit Level I Certified coach.  “Baillie” as he is known around the box, is driven by anything that is a challenge.  Like almost every other Canadian guy, Chris has played hockey his whole life but it’s CrossFit that challenges him every day and pushes his athletic limits in ways nothing else can.  To Chris, pushing members to succeed and watching them achieve a PR on something, whether it be FRAN or a big DEADLIFT, really gets him ‘jacked up’.  Oh, and we are thinking of asking him to write the music and lyrics to accompany our firstCrossFIt Select video.  Chris is a competitor with heart placing 10th in the 2011 CrossFit Overdose Challenge and finished 3rd with an on the podium finish at the 2011 Reebok/CrossFit Canada East Regional team competition.

Holly McIlroy

Picture
Holly is a level I Certified CrossFit  coach and loves to work one on one with athletes to help them improve both physically and mentally. With 3 years of CrossFit experience under her belt, a few local competitions and goals to head to Regionals with CrossFit Select's own Team Chivalry, Holly is excited to be one of the new trainers at CFS. Holly's passion to see others set, accomplish and achieve their own goals is what drives her.

Holly also completed her Level I Baron Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga course in August 2011, and has spent the last 2 years flowing with Power Yoga Canada. The classes she took and the people she encountered along the way have helped shape her into the teacher that she is today. Holly teaches the Saturday morning yoga class at CrossFit Select. Holly's yoga classes are geared towards an athletic, CrossFitters load. With all of the stress we put on our bodies, bones and muscles – we need to stretch it out!  Power Vinyasa yoga is an amazing, high paced yoga style that will help you rinse out your muscles, stretch out your hips and create a stronger core. Power Vinyasa Yoga is for the beginner yogi to the intermediate, and Holly will help tailor the practice to your needs. So come stretch out your hips and realize how much stronger your training will become the more you work on your flexibility and focus on your breath. Come stretch out those hips [they want it so bad!] and try a class with Holly today!

Monica Frischkorn

Picture
Many women are afraid of doing CrossFit because they are worried that they will ‘bulk up’.  If this describes how you feel, come in and meet Monica.  She is ‘strong as’ and can easily lift her body weight over head AND she is one lean machine.   Monica is a Certified Level 1 CrossFit trainer, an NCCP Level 2 Certified Coach and is Bronze Sail Certified.  Monica has been active her whole life – wrestling, playing rugby, sailing – and she is a fierce competitor recently taking on the Element Open and placing 3rd as a team at the Reebok/CrossFit Regionals for Eastern Canada.  If you ask Monica why she loves CrossFit she will tell you that she gets totally fired up about being able to pass on the knowledge and love of CrossFit to someone else.  Monica will help you come out the other end of a really hard workout where you will say to yourself, ‘WOW…I can’t believe I just did that!”.  In Monica’s own words, ‘a lot of the time you don’t realize just how capable you are until you push yourself to that point and when you do get there…you feel limitless!”  Bring her a dill pickle (craves these all the time) and you will have a friend for life.

Ryan Marangoni

Picture
Ryan is a CrossFit Level I Certified coach and is certified in CPR/defibrillator.  He is passionate about CrossFit; in fact, he loves it so much, before coming to CrossFit Select, he set up what is known around the gym as the ‘dungeon’ to do WODs in his own garage.  Ryan graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in Golf Course Turfgrass Management and competed on the Penn State Golf Team in 2010.  Ryan utilizes the dynamic and ever-changing nature of CrossFit WODs to drive out results for you.  Whether you are new to CrossFit or a seasoned athlete, to him there is no better feeling in seeing you progress, gain strength and become healthier in your day to day life.  To Ryan, knowing that he has had an influence in helping you reach, then surpass your fitness goals is just as gratifying as reaching them himself.   Ryan participated as a member of the CrossFit Select team at the 2011 Reebok/CrossFit Games.

Steve Viola

·         2012 Crossfit Regionals Team - 3rd
·         2012 Sweat Rx Qualifying - 1st
·         2012 Sweat Rx Championships - 1st

With a background in education and a career focused on interaction with people on a daily basis, coaching is something that Steve is completely comfortable doing and has a great passion for.  Steve has coached men's and women's hockey teams at A, AA, & AAA levels and loves how he can transfer these coaching skill into CrossFit. The community of CrossFitters and the comraderie that is experienced inside the box is the main reason why he likes to coach as well as watching the progress of everyone he coaches.  Steve is also the owner and operator of La Casa Dolce Custom Cakes and Pastries.

Susan Stakel

Picture
Susan is a CrossFit Level I Certified coach. She is a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Credit Valley Hospital and is trained in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and the use of Automated External Defibrillator. Susan is a runner! She has competed in a number of marathons and triathlons and found CrossFit in 2006. Initially, she used CrossFit to augment her tri-training but now CrossFit is her primary athletic passion and the tris are for fun when she can squeeze them in! When Susan isn’t in the gym, helping members achieve their goals, her greatest joy is spending time with her family – her husband and her beautiful daughters. Susan’s attention to form when teaching others is her strength. She knows that in order to excel you need to learn and practice the fundamental CrossFit movements. Susan sees how the small ‘wins’ achieved everyday in the gym build upon themselves and spill over into the rest of our lives. To her, the community bond that develops at CrossFit Select is almost sweeter than chocolate cake (almost!).
