A mere few months ago I found myself overweight, out of shape, unmotivated and just generally in a big rut! I was feeling ashamed of the fact that I was carrying around extra pounds of fat. Even worse was the fact that I could not find the motivation to even begin to do anything about it. I had resigned myself to the idea that I was going to be this way forever and that there was nothing I could about it. But boy, was I ever wrong about that!!!
I was fortunate enough to have been introduced to Jamie Nugent who devised an effective diet and exercise regime for me. He also introduced me to the wonderful world of CrossFit (which was to be part of my exercise regime). Every Saturday and Sunday I was to attend his ‘CompWOD Clinics’ (at CrossFit Select, Mississauga), where he would start the class with the most fact packed lecture on everything to do with the rules and guidelines around healthy eating. After the lectures, we would embark on the most challenging workouts that I have ever encountered in my entire life.
I’ll admit that initially CrossFit seemed very intimidating and I certainly did not feel I was capable of performing well in this realm. However every time I went to class, I noticed that someone was achieving something for their first time and they were doing it without fear and 1000% commitment. It was this incredible display of determination from the CrossFit Select community that inspired me to be better and just try. I had finally found the motivation that I needed to change my lifestyle for good! In a small amount of time, I managed to lose 30lbs and I began to achieve my very own “firsts”!
I truly believe that the most successful people are those who are surrounded by family and friends who believe and support them all the way. I know that I would not have achieved any of my successes without the unconditional support from the CrossFit Select community! Each and every person here inspired me to do better. There is always someone lending a helping hand, cheering you on and making you feel like you are part of a family. It is these fantastic traits that invariably foster growth in you no matter your training background and/or fitness level. Today, I am the happiest I’ve ever been and am so thankful to have been welcomed with open arms by this community.
